Talking and thinking about holidays in early childhood programs today is a “hot topic.” There is an increasing diversity of children, families, and staff who make up our programs. A lot of us have ideas of how to celebrate holidays, or some of us think we shouldn’t. There are some centres that choose ‘not to celebrate’, and others that try to celebrate all the holidays. As an industry we make the hard decision ‘to Celebrate or not to Celebrate’
Objectives for the workshop:
- Reflecting our thoughts and feelings about celebrations/holidays
- Looking at ways we can avoid the tourist approach to celebrating diversity in your program
- Discussing appropriate choice for celebrating holidays in your program
- Reflecting on what works best for us in our programs and classrooms
- Discussing ways we can connect with families and community
- Discovering alternative ways to celebrate holidays/celebrations in our programs
