BIO: Shari is a speech-language pathologist with 27 years of experience. She is the director of Advantage Speech-Language Pathology in Richmond, BC, which has a large team of therapists and assistants. Shari is on the Registry of Autism Service Providers, with designations as a speech-language pathologist and as a behaviour consultant. Her team services clients in the Richmond office, in clients’ homes, daycares, schools, and via teletherapy.
WORKSHOP DESCRIPTION: This workshop will review speech and language milestones in young children from age 1 to 5 and when there are areas of concern. Participants will explore how to recognize typical communication, difficulties or disorders in the areas of stuttering, speech sound production, and language acquisition. We will also discuss communication challenges common to Autism Spectrum Disorder. Further information regarding communication strategies to assist with verbal and non-verbal communication in natural environments will be provided, including when children come from bilingual or multilingual backgrounds.
