Sensory Processing Disorder (self paced online workshop)
What we will cover
- Understanding sensory processing disorder
- Possible ways it may affect and present in children
- What we as educators can do to help.
Sensory processing refers to the mechanisms of how we feel and what we use to make sense of the world around us. It underpins every aspect of human functioning. Sensory processing and Integration are foundational to healthy development and psychological well-being, and for healthy function, participation, and learning.
Our ability to process sensory information does not normally take our whole focus, most of us can do it without any conscious thought or cognitive effort. For some children that is not the case which can lead to challenging or unwanted behaviors.
Sensory processing is vital as it contributes significantly to emotional stability, our sense of safety, our platform for social interaction, sense of self, well-being, satisfaction and/or accomplishment. Sensory processing influences every area of living.
With the right tools and support, the children in our care with sensory processing issues can succeed in class, on the playground and at home.
