Responsible Adult In Child Care Settings Course

This is a multi-day workshop. Please ensure you are available for all the dates listed below:
In-Person 5 Saturdays, June 3,10,17, 24, and July 8 (no class July 1) from 10:00 am -2:30 pm

Course Requirements:

Be at least 19 years of age at time of registration.

All participants must have grade 8 English written and oral skills (or equivalent) to actively participate during class.

Description:

This course was developed by Westcoast to meet the requirements for 20 hours Responsible Adult training as stipulated by the Child Care Regulation. Through online sessions, it covers concepts about child development from birth to 12 years of age, child guidance, health, safety and nutrition and programming. This is a basic course meant for people starting their career in child care. This course is not suitable for those requiring professional development to renew an ECE or ECEA certificate.

Suitable for adults starting their career in child care. It is recommended that participants who want to open a family child care program, also take the 16-hour Administration for Family Child Care Course (AFCC) in addition to Westcoast’s 20-hour Responsible Adult Course, to learn about family child care as a business. This course is not suitable for those requiring professional development to renew an ECE or ECEA certificate.

Employment Possibilities
Responsible Adults are qualified to work in:

School Age Group Child Care (licensed before and after school care).
Occasional Child Care (licensed).
As a replacement (substitute/casual on call) for an ECE Assistant (for less than 30 days) in a licensed group child care centre (a Responsible Adult may not replace a fully qualified early childhood educator).
Open a licensed family child care or registered licence not required (RLNR) child care.*
Summer camps.
Requirements to be a Responsible Adult in child care settings

According to BC’s Provincial Child Care Licensing Regulation, a Responsible Adult must:

Be at least 19 years of age.

Be able to provide care and mature guidance to children.

Have completed at least 20 hours of training in child development, guidance, health and safety or nutrition and,

Have relevant work experience.

Facilitator: Lobat Reisi

Lobat has over 30 years of experience as an educator, working with children and families in different positions. Lobat completed her BA in Science and education, ECE and IT certificate. She works with children and families as a child care provider and also teaches Good Beginnings in Persian and English. She worked for ten years as an outreach coordinator for Westcoast.
