This workshop addresses ways in which Early Childhood Educators can introduce indigenous place
and perspectives to young children. The facilitator will share how she was motivated by the Truth and
Reconciliation Commission and decided to embed an emergent curriculum that introduced topics such as residential schools for young children.
Objectives:
• To discuss age appropriate ways for children to learn about Canada’s history.
• To appreciate how this learning can create and foster empathy.
• To open a new world to children who will better understand Indigenous cultures, children and human rights.
