Outside Play and Risky Play in the Early Years

Appetite to Play, in collaboration with Dr. Marianna Brussoni’s team at the BC Children’s Hospital Research Institute have developed a new module on Outside Play and Risky Play. The goal of the module is to enhance your knowledge, skills and confidence to create childcare settings that support outside play and risky play in the early years (0-5 years old).

The learning objectives of the online interactive workshop are:

1. To recognize and acknowledge feelings and benefits on outside and risky play and how to support this in your role caring for young children.

2. To recognize the importance of providing unstructured and facilitated outside play opportunities when caring for children and the skills required to achieve this.

3. Discuss the learning and developmental opportunities that risky play provides for children and how to best support this as an early years provider (EYP).

This online workshop is open to early years providers who are interested in learning more about outside play and risky play for children 0-5 years old. The session is 2 hours in length, and will count towards professional development credits for early childhood educators.
