Nutrition in the Early Years

Join us during this interactive workshop where we’ll discuss child nutrition, selective eating and overcoming these challenges. Let’s explore methods for children to get involved in cooking/preparing food, learn recipes and cooking tips, implement meal planning using Canada’s food guide and discuss current intake recommendations for children’s health in BC.

Suitable for ECE students, parents, novice and intermediate early care and learning professionals working with infants/toddlers and preschool age children.

Facilitator(s): Beza Yidegiligne

Beza Yidegiligne graduated from UBC in foods, nutrition and health in 2011. Soon after graduation she was a cooking facilitator at YMCA where she taught children basic cooking skills, food safety standards and how to make healthy food choices. In 2012, Beza moved to Ethiopia and was a cooking instructor at a preschool where she continued to teach children on healthy food choices and basic cooking skills. Beza also was a research assistant at Micronutrient Initiative Ethiopia, for the iron and folate project. Furthermore, she provided child nutrition workshops for parents and child care providers at the preschool. Beza returned to Canada in 2015, had her first child and since 2017, she works at St. Paul’s Hospital for Sodexo as a dietetic technician.
