What is it?
A presentation on how emotions work in the brain and the body, how emotions can be recognized and managed, and how you can help your children learn to better manage their emotions and cope with stress. Children’s emotional and cognitive development are discussed in relation to emotion management. Also presented are the significant affect phenomena of emotional hijacking, emotional contagion, positive/negative affect, delayed gratification, and neural plasticity; and how these relate to children’s physical and emotional well-being. Participants will receive a detailed handout on presentation topics. Questions are very welcome!
Research shows that children who have caregivers (i.e. parents, daycare workers, teachers) who have knowledge about emotional literacy and who practice and model effective emotion regulation strategies: are more empathetic and less likely to bully, are better able to cope with stress, perform better in school, and experience higher degrees of emotional and physical well-being.
