Exploring Light and Shadows with Inspiration from Reggio Emilia

This workshop is very magical and offers many suggestions and ideas on how to support educator’s and children’s awareness of shadows, both outside in our natural environment, as well as inside our classrooms.  Light and shadows are magical to children. Come and foster your own awareness of “light” and learn new strategies on how to use light tables, shadow screens, and overhead projectors in your environments and projects. The Reggio Emilia approach values using light as a material or a language to help support relationships, active investigation, and different learning styles. This workshop will offer endless opportunities to invent, imagine, wonder, explore, and problem solve with children.  This workshop is a combination of a PowerPoint presentation with a hands on group activity.

Exploring Materials with Inspiration from Reggio Emilia

Materials can be viewed as a language for expression to enhance learning and understanding in children.  This workshop covers different kinds of materials, where to find them, and how to incorporate them into your curriculum.  The workshop also reflects on qualities of materials, transforming materials, and how to create an attractive invitation to entice children to come and explore.  We also talk about creating a mini-atelier within your classroom and how to support children in beginning to design with materials.   This workshop is a combination of a PowerPoint presentation and several hands on group activities.

Wendy has worked for over 15 years as an Early Childhood Educator and 16 years as an Education Assistant in local School Districts. She was nominated for the Prime Minister’s Award for Excellence in Early Childhood Education. Wendy is extremely passionate about the Reggio Emilia Approach, with many years of experience as a practicum supervisor and mentor in assisting others in implementing this approach. Come and enjoy an exciting opportunity to explore how to create inspiring spaces.

Join us 6:15-7pm on Wednesday and 8:30-9:00am on Saturday for light refreshments!

This is a two part workshop and will need to be available for both days.
