This workshop is designed to help childcare, preschool centres, and family-drop-in programs, provide spaces that are emotionally supportive for children and families experiencing heightened levels of stress and mental health concerns. The National Institute for Early Education Research notes that around twenty percent of children entering kindergarten lack the social and emotional skills they need to be successful there. Early Childhood Educators and facilitators of community based early childhood programs have the ability to help make a difference in these children’s lives through supporting development of these skills and abilities. This workshop will discuss practical ways to increase social and emotional well-being in youngsters through: the setup of physical spaces, listening play, and group activities. Supportive and empathic ways to partner with parents when there are concerns about the emotional and social development of their children will also be explored.
HEALTH (Harnessing the Environment and Activity to Improve Target Behaviours and Mental Health)
