How to Support Children’s Communication Skill Development

Speech and Language delays are the #1 reason for parents to refer to Early Intervention Therapies. Daily routines in child care are full of natural opportunities for educators to facilitate conversations, build vocabulary, model speech sounds, and practice social communication with children. Communication skills impact children’s ability to make friends, problem solve, enter play and impacts their self-regulation when they are unable to communicate their needs. Learn how to use those moments and read children’s cues to facilitate language development.

This program serves families whose children – birth to 12 years – have extra support needs in a preschool or child care setting, and youth 13-19 who require support in their home. Consultants work with families, youth and children, together with childcare and preschool programs, to develop strategies to encourage child development and promote inclusion.

Suitable for all early learning professionals and parents.
