Executive Function refers to a group of skills that helps us to focus on multiple streams of information at the same time, monitor errors, make decisions in light of available information, revise plans as necessary, and resist the urge to let frustration lead to challenging behaviors. These skills develop through practice and are strengthened by experiences at home, at child care/preschool, and later at school. Our genes provide the blueprint but the early environment in which children live impacts how these capacities actually develop. Providing the support that children need to build these skills is one of the most important and challenging tasks of early childhood years. This workshop will provide participants with a comprehensive understanding of what executive functions are, and the key role of parents, caregivers, and educators in facilitating their development.
