Description:
Vancouver is a vibrant, multi-ethnic city with a growing population of ECE students that are ELLs. We’ll explore the challenges and the rewards of integrating young ELL students into regular ECE classrooms. Come share and learn about how teachers can help students whose first language isn’t English feel safe, welcomed, and most importantly understood. We will discuss practical solutions as well as where to find resources online and elsewhere.
Objectives:
- Define ELL as it relates to preschool students.
- Explore how to work with children with no prior English experience.
- Discuss working with the families of ELL students.
- Evaluate the classroom environment as a language learning aid.
