Early Learning Framework: Rethinking Learning and Practice

B.C.’s Early Learning Framework guides early learning programs and activities, supporting early childhood educators, primary school teachers, communities, governments and families. It guides the promotion of early learning and it applies to all learning environments, from StrongStart BC programs to child health care programs. It establishes a vision for respectfully living and learning together, supporting rich early learning experiences for children, providing a focal point for dialogue, and encouraging families to talk about their child’s early learning. It has the goal of creating a common language, a shared image of children, and a greater understanding of the vital importance of early learning for all children, shaping professional development.

During this workshop we will consider how a pedagogy of listening, critical reflection, collaborative dialogue and pedagogical narration can be incorporated into our practice, wherever we are with children. We will explore how these practices can enhance learning, see how these work together, and think about how they can enhance our professional practice.
