Sonya Philips is the founder of learning matters in New Delhi India. She works in the area of Early Childhood Learning Differences and teacher training.
Sonya founded Learning Matters in 2005 after decades of experience teaching in both Washington DC as well as New Delhi to address the needs of children with learning differences. Even with her Master’s degree in education and working in the most progressive schools, when she became a mother of a son diagnosed with learning issues, she realized how ill-equipped Early Childhood Education teachers, including herself, were to understand learning diversity.
She moved to Washington to work in a lab school that worked with creative children who could not succeed in the traditional classroom. She returned to school to study the field of Learning Differences. 7 years later Sonya returned to New Delhi and set up a learning matters program.
Sonya strives to help teachers provide equitable classrooms to create healthy citizens
