This workshop’s content is focused towards developing a foundational understanding of
what children experience when they are facing separation from a parent or caregiver. We
will discuss at length not only the attachment system but also the alarm system (anxiety),
and strategies for both, parents and caregivers to utilize to separate with ease.
Objectives:
• Understand the major tenets of Connection & Separation to enable care providers to respond effectively to the attachment needs of children in our care.
• Explore and discuss how to provide a comforting, nurturing environment for children to be received into.

Shannon McGeehan
Presenter Information
For the past 22 years Shannon’s professional growth & development has been concentrated in child and family development. Her work as a Social Worker, Foster Parent, Outreach Consultant, Connect Parent Group Facilitator and clinician at MCFD’s Child & Youth Mental Health, plus her Masters of Education in Counselling Psychology, informs her approach and guides her towards helping parents in a gentle, authentic way. Shannon is also a parent to two small children.
