Connecting First Peoples Principles of Learning to Our Practice – Online Workshop

2 Mondays, July 10 & 17
Suitable for all early learning and child care professionals. In the first session, we will begin to explore the First Peoples Principles of Learning. What do they mean and how should they impact our work? Before we can dive deep into the principles, it’s important to talk about reconciliation. Reconciliation starts with examining the true history of Canada and understanding the impact the colonial system has had on the Indigenous Peoples of Canada. When we understand this truth, we can begin to look at how Indigenous ways of knowing and relating to Indigenous pedagogies. The First Peoples Principles of Learning provides a framework that reflects the values of Indigenous Peoples.
In part two we will revisit the First Peoples Principles of Learning and unpack any questions that have come up since our previous sessions. We will then explore how these principles guide us in planning our programs, how they guide us in resource selection and help us make connections to place-based activities.
If time permits, we will discuss the Ministry of Education’s Action Plan related to Anti-Racism.
