Advancing Children’s Rights in the Early Years(IN PERSON)

PRESENTER: Margie Sanderson(she/her) has been passionate about young people’s rights from at least to age 9 when she rallied her classmates to petition for changes at their elementary school. She has a background working with young people in a variety of schools and educational environments, including K-12 and early childhood settings. She is a strong believer in the importance of child and youth participation, and enjoys helping adults and caregivers find ways to meaningfully support children’s rights in even the earliest years.

WORKSHOP DESCRIPTION: This workshop will give early years professionals new ideas and inspiration about creating empowering, rights respecting spaces for young learners. Together we will explore the United Nations Convention on the Rights of the Child, and how the concept of rights and responsibilities takes shape in childcare and early learning settings. From here, we will explore a variety of tools and strategies for bringing these concepts into your setting and learn from one another’s experiences in small group discussions. The workshop will offer opportunities for all participants to engage and interact, and come away feeling newly inspired about integrating children’s rights into their setting.
