BIO: An immigrant herself, Nadia has bridged her background in clinical psychology with her passion for early childhood education. She is currently a regional childcare manager at MOSAIC and has worked closely with newcomer families for over a decade. Nadia participates actively in the community and has served on both the VCC Program Advisory Committee and the BC Centre for Ability Advisory Committee. She has also helped revamp regulations for ELSA Childminding programs with the BC Ministry of Tourism and Integration.
WORKSHOP DESCRIPTION: This is a two-part series. Built entirely of immigrants, Canada is a mosaic that welcomes well over 300,000 families a year. It is thus imperative that we, as Educators, bridge professional silos, address systemic discrepancies and learn to appreciate diversity.
Participants will acquire the following:
- To acknowledge the unique challenges newcomer families and children experience;
- To customize policy such that people of diverse backgrounds and experiences feel welcomed; and
- To identify and bridge gaps that exist among neurodivergent newcomers and community services.
